As a business consultant, I work with people who despite their incredible skills and abilities have not yet reached the level of success that they want or deserve. A large part of my coaching involves work on your mindset and confidence, because I believe itโs positivity that will get you to where you want to be.
When you lack confidence you are missing out on so much; up-levelling your business, building new relationships, having new experiences and even creating life-changing opportunities.
Over the years I have learnt many techniques and methods to boost your confidence and maintain a positive mindset, here are just some of them;
Start a journal (goals, gratitudes and affirmations)
If youโre not already in the habit of journaling, now is a great time to start. The benefits of journaling are clear, helping you to prioritise self-care and promoting a positive mindset.
Donโt be put off by the terminology, journaling is really just a way of acknowledging your thoughts and feelings by writing them down. You can use your journal in a number of different ways, to hold yourself accountable to intentions and goals or sharing daily gratitudes to listing positive affirmations that reinforce confident thinking.
Donโt compare yourself to others
How many times have you scrolled through your Instagram feed and felt totally overwhelmed and inadequate after seeing the successes of your competitors and colleagues?
Comparing your achievements to others reinforces your internal belief that you are somehow losing or inferior when there is plenty of space for everyone to achieve. Switch your mindset to feel inspired or empowered by the achievements of others to motivate your own success.
Declutter
Whether itโs decluttering your office, tidying your desk or organising your emails and folders, putting in place structure and order helps to reduce stress and distractions and makes completing everyday tasks easier โ giving you more energy to focus on other things.
Decluttering is also cleansing, getting rid of notes from the pitch you didnโt win, or the client that you didnโt enjoy working with also removes any negative associations you may be holding on to.
Learn visualisation techniques
Visualisation is a technique that allows you to train your mind to behave more confidently. Your brain canโt distinguish between a real or imagined experience, thought or feeling, making visualisation a powerful tool to allow you to think positively about your goals and achievements before they actually happen.
Simple visualisation techniques include mentally rehearsing a situation where you are acting totally confident and at ease or tapping into the sights, sounds and feelings of confidence you had the last time you felt a real sense of achievement.
Repeating these scenarios in your mind will, over time, build an unconscious response of confidence whenever similar experiences take place in reality.
Celebrate the small things
Focussing only on big goals can feel unachievable and make you quickly lose confidence. Breaking down your targets into smaller, more manageable chunks is an easy way to divide challenges into pieces that you know you can succeed at. Making achievements small and often gives us the motivation and confidence to keep going, which is why I help my clients break down their goals into tasks that can be easily achieved and encourage you to celebrate the small wins every week.
Surround yourself with positivity
I believe that positivity goes a long way to creating the success you desire. We all know someone with an infectious energy that just makes you love spending time with them, surrounding yourself with a whole community of positive people goes a long way to boosting your self-esteem and belief in your abilities.
As a consultant and mentor, I will be your biggest cheerleader, providing encouragement, support, and guidance alongside a huge dose of positivity.
Smile
When you feel good about yourself, confidence comes naturally. So, stand up straight, wear that mood-boosting outfit, add a fabulous accessory and SMILE. Smiling is scientifically proven to make you feel good, releasing endorphins that make you feel happier. Not only that, smiling makes others around you feel good too increasing that positive energy and boosting confidence even further.
