You are probably pretty familiar with the term group coaching or online training, but what about a mastermind? Is that just another name to describe the same thing? Or is a mastermind something different? I have attended in person mastermind days, been in online masterminds, hosted my own masterminds and hosted my own group coaching. So here is a little summary of the ins and outs, and my view.

Group Coaching
Is when a group of individuals come together to learn a set curriculum together, normally backed up by a live support call with the coach to answer any questions. The training will be released at a set time each week or month.
In 2017 + 2018 I ran 2 rounds of a group coaching programme for the UKAWP called Build & Boost (to be fair still think thatโs a fab name). In 2019 I opened my consultancy business and thus no longer offered coaching within the UKAWP, except inside the membership.
Online Training
A training course hosted via an online platform where students can learn at their own pace. No additional support is normally included .
I have various online courses via the UKAWP, this is purely online and no support is given unless students upgrade for the VIP option or if I run a virtual version which includes some live aspects.
Mastermind
Is where a group of individuals come together to give / receive advice and support for their business.
Sometimes includes regular training from the coach or a chosen expert. Includes group zoom calls and/or in person events. Although facilitated by the coach the power comes from the peer experience and knowledge.
Why have I chosen to host a mastermind?
When I launched my consultancy business I did so knowing I would be going against the grain somewhat, where coaches were encouraged to launch memberships or passive courses. But for me , I wanted to work deeper with my clients and really empower them to propel their businesses forward. And lets’ face it, I already have a membership and courses, I wanted my consultancy business to be more high touch than passive allows.
My zone of genius is working with clients 1:1 but I recognise my top package is not in the reach of everyone financially. I strongly felt called to support as many creatives as I could. So I decided to curate something that gave amazing value in terms of content and support.
I wanted to still cover many of the topics I work on with 1:1 clients, and give them a toolkit of resources to help them move forwards. I knew therefore I needed to launch a group offering (as I can only onboard a limited number of 1:1 clients per month) and a mastermind is the perfect combination allowing more support to clients vs a group coaching programme.
My experience of masterminds
I love masterminds and will be looking to join one in 2023.
In the past I have attended 2 in person mastermind days (which were amazing) and joined an online mastermind programme with some phenomenal businesswomen.
This gave me an insight into the power of a mastermind, Iโve since hosted 2 Mastermind Days (paused due to covid but will be back) and launched my Create & Scale blended mastermind Autumn 2022.
Benefits of a Mastermind
A mastermind filters those joining to ensure a good mix of levels, plus an understanding of what they can bring knowledge wise to the group.
A mastermind is a community of conscious individuals who have made a decision to improve their business, and will dedicate time to do so. They are willing to be fully committed to increase their learning but support fellow peers with theirs. It tends to be a much more closely connected group cheering each other on.
The size will be smaller, for my own mastermind it will be between 6-10 people, large enough for the community but small enough that I can support each business personally.
It offers more exclusivity with personal connections an important factor. Youโve all heard the phrase we are stronger together and this is why masterminds work. Community over competition plays a large part, you will experience first hand what this actually means.
You will know things your fellow masterminders donโt, so will help/explain to them. But they will have experience / knowledge in other areas so will help you with that. In other words itโs the sharing of minds that brings forth the power. Sharing of ideas to get an outsiders perspective for honest and constructive feedback
Blended Mastermind
When I was designing Create & Scale I knew I wanted 1:1 aspects within it so I created a blended mastermind, I asked myself what would I love if joining?! So as well as the trainings, group calls , energy healing and community I decided to include the following aspects:
Business Review: This is my 45 minute business review where I analyse clients businesses before sending them a report of findings. For my masterminders this will help me identify which areas of business need the most love and attention throughout the mastermind. This is done right at the start of our time together
1:1 Zoom: Half way through I will have a 1:1 call with everyone to see how they are, they can really open up and share anything that is troubling them. Plus I can take a deep dive into their business during this time.
Strategy Day: And because I love a hug, and know how powerful my mastermind days were, I decided to host an in person strategy day to map out their goals and get those in person hugs!.
