How to stop worrying about other people’s opinions and make more confident decisions in your wedding business.
Article Updated August 2026
Not everyone deserves to be around you physically and emotionally
Do you ever find yourself lying in bed endlessly thinking about what someone thinks about you?
Do you dissect conversations and messages?
Avoid posting an offer or image for fear of what others may say?
Are you letting the opinions of others impact your life?
If so, you’re not alone
Many business owners spend far too much time worrying about being judged. As a consequence, they stop showing up authentically, avoid taking risks and hold themselves back from opportunities that could transform their lives and businesses.
Constantly living in a place of fear will drastically affect your mental health, it happens slowly without us realising until one day we are at rock bottom and lack the confidence and self-esteem we once had.
This in turn will affect your business, imposter syndrome will kick in and you will avoid reaching for your goals for fear what others may say.
The irony?
The people whose opinions you are most worried about are often not even your ideal clients.
So why does their opinion even matter?
Learning to trust yourself and believe in your own decisions can take some practice but doing so increases your strength as an entrepreneur.

Why Caring What Other People Think Can Hold Your Wedding Business Back
Caring what other people think isn’t necessarily a bad thing. If you’re an introvert, you may naturally be thoughtful, observant and sensitive to how other people feel. Those qualities can be huge strengths when you’re working with couples and building relationships with fellow suppliers and venues.
The problem is when other people’s opinions start making your business decisions for you.
I’ve seen this happen with wedding planners and suppliers who know they want to grow, but find themselves hesitating over decisions because they’re worried about how those decisions might be perceived. Sometimes the simple act of publishing a new social media post can take days because they are concerned what their peers will say about the image or caption. And if you think about it, giving those imagined opinions so much power can hold us back. That doesn’t mean ignoring good advice or refusing to listen to feedback.
Now, you might know you need to:
- Raise your prices, but worry that people will think you’re too expensive.
- Say no to unsuitable clients, because you’re afraid of losing the enquiry or what they might say afterwards.
- Change your packages or stop offering a service, because you’ve always done it that way.
- Niche your business, but worry about turning potential clients away.
- Show more of your personality online, but feel uncomfortable putting yourself out there.
- Invest in support or outsource, because you think you should be able to do everything yourself.
- Take proper time away from the business, because you’re worried about missing an opportunity or falling behind.
- Make a decision your competitors aren’t making, because you’re wondering whether everyone else knows something you don’t.
And here’s the thing.
Your competitors aren’t running your business. Your clients aren’t running your business. And neither are the people watching from the sidelines.
You are.
That doesn’t mean ignoring good advice or refusing to listen to feedback. It means learning to distinguish between useful information and someone else’s opinion.
A client giving you genuine feedback is worth listening to. A trusted adviser challenging your thinking is worth considering. But someone else’s opinion about what they would charge, how they would market themselves or what they think you should be doing isn’t necessarily relevant to the business you’re trying to build.
Ultimately, you don’t need to stop caring what people think.
You need to stop allowing what they might think to make your decisions for you.
And for a wedding business owner who wants to grow, that can be a surprisingly powerful shift.

Why Do We Care What Others Think?
As humans, weโre wired for connection and belonging. Wanting acceptance is completely normal.
The challenge comes when fear of judgement starts making our decisions for us.
We all have different experiences, values and beliefs. Expecting everyone to think the same way would be unrealistic. In fact, bringing different perspectives together helps us grow and better understand the world around us.
I remember a phrase from one of my previous coaches that has always stayed with me:
โTheir opinion is their truth. It doesnโt have to be yours.โ
When someone has a different viewpoint, it doesnโt automatically make them right or wrong. It simply reflects their experiences and beliefs.
Recognising this can be incredibly freeing.
5 ways you can stop worrying about what others think, in order that you can move forwards and upwards.

Focus On Your Own Unique Experiences
I remember a phrase by one of my previous coaches that has really stuck with me and that is when someone has a difference of opinion to us, thatโs ok.
Recognising their view is their truth; it doesnโt mean you need to agree with them.
We are all different, have unique experiences and values so why would it be normal for everyone to think and feel the same?
Bringing different experiences and perspectives together enables us to grow as valuable people of society.
It is common to encounter disagreements with others on various topics, listening and understanding those differences in turn helps you understand the world more.
Accept That Not Everyone Will Like You
Have you ever sat there replaying a conversation over and over in your head?
Convinced that the other party is upset or you said something wrong.
Or you donโt post something for fear of what others may say?
Instead accept not everyone will like you.
This might sound harsh, but itโs actually liberating. No matter what you do, there will always be people who disagree with you, misunderstand you or simply donโt connect with your personality.
Thatโs not a reflection of your worth.
You imagine them looking at your content and making judgements.
Whereas the truth often is that others do not care enough to be bothered. They are getting on with their own lives.ย
So why are you letting this stop you? And who even cares if they are consuming your content?
The goal isnโt to be liked by everyone. The goal is to be authentically yourself and attract the people who do resonate with who you are.
Say Yes to Joy
Those who know me will know my personal motto:
โDoes it bring me joy?โ
Learning to say no to people, opportunities and situations that arenโt aligned with your values is incredibly empowering.
This brings the power back to you.
You deserve to be happy.
Say yes to the opportunities that excite you.
Say no to the people who drain your energy, are negative and toxic.
The more you care about what everyone thinks, the more power you hand over to them.
Take stock of the people you spend the most time with.
Do they encourage you?
Do they support your growth?
Do they celebrate your wins?
Or are they constantly pulling you backwards?
Who brings you the joy and encouragement that you need?
Ask Yourself If Youโre Amplifying Your Own Fears
Sometimes the judgement weโre afraid of isnโt coming from anyone else.
Itโs coming from us.
Our subconscious is telling us its ok not to do the โthingโ. Itโs giving us permission not to move forwards.
When we fear launching something new, increasing our prices, becoming more visible or trying something different, our subconscious mind often creates stories to keep us safe.
We never fear judgement on areas of life and business we are fully confident in.
The fear of judging is only ever on those subconscious fears.
We convince ourselves people will judge us.
We tell ourselves weโre not ready.
We find reasons to delay taking action.
In reality, these fears often reflect our own doubts rather than anyone elseโs opinions.
By working on your confidence, mindset and subconscious beliefs, you can move forward with greater freedom and self-belief.

Learn The Difference Between Criticism And Feedback
Being consciously aware of your thoughts is essential for your inner strength.
When self-doubt appears, donโt ignore it.
Instead, get curious.
Ask yourself:
- Is this thought helping me grow?
- Is this fear based on fact or assumption?
- What evidence do I have that this is true?
And if someone has genuinely said something about you or your business, pause before reacting emotionally.
Are they criticising you?
Or are they offering constructive feedback?
There is a significant difference.
As a consultant, my role is often to offer honest feedback that helps clients improve and grow. Whilst it may feel uncomfortable at times, constructive criticism can be one of the fastest routes to progress.
When It’s Not Just Confidence
Sometimes what looks like a confidence problem is actually a clarity problem.
You may know you want your wedding business to grow, but you’re not sure what growth should look like for you, what needs to change, or which decisions will actually move you forward.
This is where my consultancy work comes in.
I’m known for creating bespoke strategies for wedding planners and suppliers, but strategy on its own isn’t always enough. Mindset is a vital part of growth too.
Because there is no one-size-fits-all way to build a successful wedding business.
You don’t need to sound like another business owner on Instagram. You don’t need to have the same goals as your competitors. You don’t need to follow someone else’s version of what a successful wedding business should look like.
You have different experience, different strengths, different circumstances and different goals.
That’s why my approach is always tailored to the person and the business in front of me. We look at the practical side โ your strategy, positioning, profitability, systems and growth โ while also looking at the mindset that might be helping or holding you back.
Because sustainable growth isn’t about turning you into a different kind of business owner.
It’s about helping you build a business that works for you.
โ Tired of doing it all alone?
You don’t have to figure out every business decision by yourself. My bespoke consultancy combines practical business strategy with the mindset support needed to actually put that strategy into action.
Closing thoughts
Remember:
- You cannot control other peopleโs opinions.
- Perfection does not exist.
- Mistakes are part of growth.
- Not every opinion deserves your attention.
- Mindset matters just as much as strategy.
- The people who genuinely support you are worth focusing on.
Most importantly, remember that not everyone deserves access to you physically or emotionally.
Protect your energy.
Trust yourself.
Back yourself.
Increase the joy.
And keep moving forward.
A Simple Exercise When Youโre Worried About Being Judged
The next time you find yourself worrying about what someone thinks, ask yourself:
- Whose opinion am I worried about?
- Have they achieved what I want to achieve?
- Are they someone I respect?
- Will this matter in 12 months?
- What would I do if I wasnโt worried about being judged?
The answers are often incredibly revealing.
Ready to Stop Second-Guessing Your Business?
Sometimes you don’t need more information. You need someone outside the business to help you see what’s really going on.
My consultancy is tailored to your business, your experience, your goals and the way you want to work โ combining practical strategy with the mindset support that helps you actually move forward.
